Services and Fees
DONA's motto is “a doula for every woman who wants one”. I strongly agree with that, and in that spirit I will try to accommodate everyone.
I provide a free consultation meeting for asking questions and gathering information. With all the pressures of your upcoming birth, it is essential that you feel comfortable with me as a person and the services that I have to offer. I will also provide references at your request.
Once you have secured my services, you have my support from that point forward. That means I am available by phone for questions, or any urgent developments, should they arise. While clients may hire me at various weeks in their pregnancies, by retaining my services as soon as possible you are able to assure my availability for your due date and also get the full benefit of my information and support. Please note, I am limited in the number of births I can accept each month. I do this to help avoid two women laboring/delivering at the same time and so that I can devote the proper time and attention that each client deserves.
I offer a variety of services which allows you to choose whichever combination best suits your needs. The options are as follows:
Birth Preparation Course
This course is ideal for those couples who are having their first baby. In this course I teach only one couple at a time, so I am available for your individual questions, while you can enjoy complete privacy and confidentiality. My approach is to prepare a couple for natural childbirth, with explanations of hospital procedures also so that you will be completely familiar with options for interventions at the hospital, should the need arise. In these classes you will learn about the physiological process of labor and what is happening in your body during labor. You will also learn coping techniques for pain relief. You will learn to recognize the different stages of labor, and see them from the mother's perspective as well as the baby's. And you can practice effective laboring positions, again, with complete privacy. In addition, there is a video presentation on natural birthing, and like all my clients, you will have full access to my library of birthing books and tapes. By the end of this course the couple will be well prepared for their birth.
4 classes of 2-3 hours each, 750 NIS total
Prenatal Visits + Birthing Basics
At the prenatal visits, we discuss your goals for your birth, and my advice and techniques to help you meet these goals. I share with you my knowledge of pain relief techniques and positions, and go over what can be expected in the hospital during the birth. Includes access to my birthing library.
2 sessions of 2 hours each, 500NIS total
At the postnatal visits, I find there are always many issues to discuss and clarify with regard to baby care, breastfeeding, acclimation into the family, and so forth. I also offer professional referrals for continuing support with these and other issues that may arise after your baby is born.
2 sessions of 2 hours each, 500NIS total
My Attendance at Your Birth
Although having a prior relationship with the birthing parents is an integral part of being a birth assistant, I offer this service separately because I understand financial restraints, and feel strongly that if a woman wants a doula, there should be choices of how to have one. With this service, we meet first at the onset of your labor. I will keep my phone available 24/7 for you as your due date approaches (from 2 weeks before the date). You call me when your labor begins, and I will meet you either at home or at the hospital with my bag of “tricks”, and give you constant support (pain relief measures, massage, acupressure, reflexology, positions to help turn a posterior baby, breathing techniques, visualizations, cold/warm compresses, etc.) throughout the entire duration of your labor and birth, and stay for approximately two hours after birth.
Base fee of 500 NIS (being on-call + phone consultations) AND 100 NIS per hour of time spent with laboring mother and in post-delivery support.
I offer a special rate for the doula package (which is, of course, what I also most recommend as far as having a more positive and fulfilling birth experience). This includes two prenatal meetings, being on call 24/7, the birth, and two postnatal meetings.
1,600 NIS (+ 100 NIS/hr. if labor assistance exceeds ten hours)
Doula Package Plus
Same as above, but includes the full Birth Preparation Course which supercedes the 2 Prenatal Visits.
1,900 NIS (+ 100 NIS/hr. if labor assistance exceeds ten hours)
Nursing mothers who are having trouble with breastfeeding can usually have the problem resolved in just one consultation. A standard consultation lasts 1-2 hours.
Fee: 125 NIS per hour
You may pay for my services by cash or check, and payment plans are available. Please note that some health funds and private health insurance plans now offer coverage for birth prep courses and even doula services. Check with your health fund (kupah) and/or insurance provider(s) for details.
